Greatest Underrated Guitar Players

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Ask anybody who the greatest guitar players in the history of rock music are, and you’ll likely get the standard answers. The big three, Clapton, Beck and Page; certainly Eddie Van Halen; maybe Stevie Ray Vaughn. The metal-heads will cite Randy Rhodes and George Lynch. These are all valid answers, but if you would put forth names like Elliot Easton and Andy Summers, you might be likely to get a blank stare in return. Too often great guitarists are overlooked simply because they lack the flash of a star like Eddie Van Halen or because they are part of a group that simply has an overabundance of talent and they tend to be moved to the background. Take Andy Summers, guitarist for the Police. Everybody knows who Sting is, and there is no doubt that he is tremendously talented, as is drummer Stewart Copeland. As part of that unit, however, Summers was often overlooked. What is so amazing about Andy Summers is not only his command of the instrument, but his overwhelming versatility. From ska to punk to reggae to straight ahead rock and roll, nothing is outside of his ability. His style has been described as minimalist, but that minimalism is a plus, and he is to be credited for not falling prey to his critics and trying to overplay to compensate for a lack of complex layers of sound. Below, in no particular order, I’ve listed some of my favorite underappreciated players, and the reasons why I consider them to be great.

Elliot Easton (The Cars): Elliot Easton is probably the greatest reason for the success of The Cars. Without Easton’s accessible rock guitar cutting through the synth driven Cars sound, they never would have found the mainstream acceptance that they did. Imagine the spacey pair of Ric Ocasik and Greg Hawkes playing over an equally new-wave influenced guitarist and you have a style of music that would not appeal to people on a large scale. Easton’s Buddy Hollyesque sound, however, served to make The Cars commercially viable. “My Best Friend’s Girl” from their debut album is an excellent example of how Easton’s contribution was essential in creating hit records for The Cars.

Warren DiMartini (Ratt): What impresses me most about DiMartini is that fact that despite being known as a speed demon who is content to throw a startling flurry of notes at the listener, is that he knows the value of a rest. Too many metal artists try to play as fast as possible, and DiMartini can keep up with the best of them, but I’m more taken with the fact that on songs like “Lay it Down”, “Wanted Man” and “Round and Round”, it’s DiMartini’s artful use of pauses and mutings to lend depth and character to what would otherwise be just another ripping metal tune.

Kathy Valentine (The Go-Go’s/solo): The Go-Go’s will never be known for stunning musicianship, but Kathy Valentine’s reputation suffered from being thrown together with a group of girls who were far less proficient in their playing. Not to say that the Go-Go’s were not any good. Their style of music was based on catchy beats and fun lyrics, so being technically perfect was not a requirement. Unfortunately, the fact that this was an easily exploitable fault that the critics could grab a hold of, the band was unfairly criticized for being “a bunch of girls who could barely play their instruments.” If they had bothered to check, they would have found the Valentine was actually an experienced and talented guitarist, making the switch to bass to fill the spot with the Go-Go’s. Actually, a casual listen will show that Valentine’s bass playing stands out more that Charlotte Caffey’s or Jane Wiedlin’s guitar work. At times it’s almost melodic. Since the Go-Go’s Valentine has gone solo, along with a side project called the Delpines. I would strongly urge you to check out Valentine’s appealing mix of rock and punk on her “Light Years” album.

Slash (Guns ‘N’ Roses/Velvet Revolver): Guns ‘N’ Roses now Velvet Revolver bassist Duff McKagan once claimed that Slash had “the fastest right hand I’ve ever seen.” While it may be argued that the left (fretting) hand is more important for a guitarist, after hearing Slash play, there can be no discounting the value of a fast right hand. “Sweet Child of Mine”, “Paradise City” and “Welcome to the Jungle” received more radio play, but to hear one of the best examples of Slash’s work, check out “Mr. Brownstone” on “Appetite for Destruction”.

Steve “Steamin” Clark (Def Leppard): It seems that all great artists have their demons and Steve Clark was no exception. Before alcohol claimed his life at too young an age, Steve Clark had built up a legacy of fine work that will live on. Steve’s gift was an ability to build spatial separation into his phrasing. It was almost as if he was playing in a huge empty amphitheater in which each note rang out perfectly and separately and yet, along with the complimentary work of bandmate Phil Colin, fit tightly together like pieces in a puzzle. The song “Love Bites” from the “Hysteria” album perfectly illustrates this point. Unlike previous member Pete Willis, Colin provided a perfect foil for Clark to play off of. Unfortunately, Def Leppard seemed to be associated more with the fact that drummer Rick Allen played with one arm, the result of a 1984 auto accident, taking some of the attention away from the fact that Clark’s playing made Def Leppard one of the finest pop metal bands of the 80′s.

Howard Leese (Heart): Fated to share the stage with two of the most beautiful and talented women of the rock era, Howard Leese continued to lend his creative talents to Heart long after its other founding members had departed. It was Nancy with her beautiful blond tresses that stole the spotlight, but it was Howard’s guitar that powered the group. Secure in the knowledge that he was a key component in Heart’s driving guitar based sound, he was never bitter about the fact that his name was only recognizable amongst true fans of the group. Listen to “Barracuda” or “Magic Man” or “Even it Up” and you are instantly struck by the inherent “coolness” of the opening riffs, and his mastery of harmonic overtones is second to none.

Going To Church On Sunday Does Not Keep You Out Of Hell

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

In the book of Matthew 25:14-30, Jesus talks about the parable of the talents. In the parable it talks about different servants of the Lord, the Lord had given certain talents to certain servants, some of the servants used their talents for Gods Kingdom and God gave them other talents which could be used to further Gods Kingdom. The servants who earned other talents for being fruitful with what they were first given were made rulers over many things, because they had been faithful in serving the Lord, and had not been idle with what He had given them. Other servants of the Lord who claimed to serve Him were cast into the darkness though, because they buried their talents and remained idle and did nothing for God.

Idleness is a serious sin before the Lord, one of the main reasons God destroyed Sodom and all its inhabitants was because its abundance of idleness, anyone who is idle before the Lord is in danger of being destroyed just like Sodom was, “Look, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: She and her daughter had abundance of idleness. And they were haughty and committed abomination before Me; therefore I took them away as I saw fit.” (Ezekiel 16:49-50)

Jesus said that if a servant of God who was unprofitable and did not bear fruit would be cast into the darkness for their idleness. “And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” (Matt 25:30). Clearly Jesus told us in this parable that if a servant buried his talents, and did not use them to bear fruit for Gods Kingdom, that the unprofitable servant would be cast into the darkness of hell with the Prince of darkness.

When someone is saved and brought into Gods Kingdom, if they bury their talents and do not serve God, and do not bear fruit they will be cut down like an axe cuts down a tree and they will be cast into the fires of hell. It is possible for the people who are brought into Gods Kingdom to be cast into the Kingdom of darkness with the devil if they fall away, “But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”(Matt 8:12).

Falling away from Gods Kingdom by becoming idle and unprofitable can cause you to fall into the depths of hell; Jesus said that you are either for Him or against Him. Idleness is being lukewarm, and being lukewarm will cause you to be vomited out of Gods mouth and into the pit of hell. Simply going to church and praising God and singing praise and worship songs and claiming salvation does not please God, God desires profitable servants who bear fruit and are not choked by the deceitfulness of riches and the cares of the world. “I hate, I despise your feast days, and I do not savor your sacred assemblies.” (Amos 5:21)

“Take away from Me the noise of your songs, for I will not hear the melody of your stringed instruments. But let justice run down like water, and righteousness like a mighty stream.” (Amos 5:23-24). Baring fruit means baring the fruit of the spirit in your life, and letting the fruit of the spirit flow through you like water, so that you can see righteousness and justice being done wherever you go, because the Holy Spirit is like a living water that brings righteousness and justice that can overpower the darkness and evil of the world. To be fruitful we must let justice and righteousness run down from us like water, so that the evil and injustice will be flooded with righteousness and justice.

We flood evil and injustice by speaking up for the injustices in the world, and shining Gods truth on the deceit and corruption that is hurting so many people. If we do not speak up for the injustices going on in the world and remain idle about these injustices, we will be judged by God and risk being cast into hell for being an unprofitable servant. “But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the Day of Judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” (Matt 12:36-37). We must not be idle with our words, but we must speak up against unjust wars and against the atrocities committed when a nation gets bombed and innocent people are killed. Idleness is a serious sin, praising God every Sunday in church and then doing nothing about the evil going on in the world during the week is a state of idleness, and idleness is being an unprofitable servant. If you are an unprofitable servant, Jesus says that you will be cast in the darkness and you will not make it to Heaven.

Thus says the Lord, I give my people many opportunities to serve me and do my will, not everyone who says Lord, Lord shall enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but only those who do the will of My Father. It is not My Fathers wish that any perish, but that all repent and turn to righteousness and be saved. Many are called but few are chosen, I call many people to serve My Father and they go to church and they praise Me at church every Sunday with their mouths and lips… but their hearts are far from me. When they leave their church services they are more occupied with the things of the world; the deceitfulness of riches and the cares of the world choke the word they hear at church and they become unfruitful. Unfruitfulness is a state of idleness which I despise, because I said that if you are not for me, you are against me. Those who are idle are against Me, because if they were for me, they would take up their cross and come follow me. For those who do not take up their cross and follow Me are not worthy of Me, those who do not leave: mother, father, house, land, riches, cars and comfort for my name sake and the sake of the gospel are not worthy of me. Those who are unprofitable and do not serve me with all their heart, mind and soul are not worthy of me, and those who do not bear fruit will be cut down with an axe and be cast into the fire. I the Lord have spoken.

Jesus clearly said in the gospels that an unprofitable servant shall be cast into the darkness of hell, along with the Prince of darkness and the fallen angels. I have just finished reading a book by Mary K Baxter called, “A Divine Revelation of Hell”, I read this book because I was visited by Michael the Archangel and he told me to read this book as soon as possible. This book put the fear of God into me, and gave me a more fervent will to serve God by sharing the gospel with the lost. Mary K Baxter was taken by Jesus Christ to visit Hell so she could come back to earth, and warn people that if they did not obey God they would be sent to this terrible place. Mary saw many unprofitable servants in Hell who had once been ministers of the gospel, one minister had been preaching a prosperity lifestyle, lived a lavish life, and preached a watered down gospel while on earth. This minister was now in Hell for preaching a watered down gospel of cheap grace, and teaching that you can serve God and mammon. Mary saw this former Minister of the gospel actually in Hell being stabbed in the heart by demons over and over again, Jesus said that many would come to Him and say, “didn’t we do many signs in your name?” but then Jesus would say, “depart from me I never knew you!”. This Minister seemed to be preaching the gospel with signs of prosperity in his life, but Jesus had said to him, “depart from me I never knew you!” and then He sent him into hell to be tormented and brutalized by Satan.

Mary K Baxter is a Prophetess and woman of God who was genuinely taken by Jesus Christ to visit Hell, Hell is a real place and it is ruled by Satan himself, and those who enter hell are subjected to brutal torments and an eternity of pain, because if you are not for Jesus you are against Him, and if you are against Jesus that means you are for the devil. Those who are for the devil will follow him into his kingdom of darkness. This modern preaching of a watered down gospel and cheap grace is a doctrine of devils, and it has been inspired by a seducing spirit that’s going to lead all who practice and preach it to hell. God has given eternal life to all those who obey Him, serve him and bear fruit for His Kingdom by actively fighting against the Kingdom of darkness. Only those who obey shall be given eternal salvation. “And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him.” (Hebrew 5:9). Eternal salvation comes by drinking the blood of Christ, by eating the flesh and consuming the full doctrine and teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ who died for the sins of the world.

To believe in Jesus to obtain eternal life, means to fully drink and eat of everything Jesus represented and of everything He spoke. We must consume and digest everything Jesus spoke and make it become part of us, so we can become perfected in Christ and become Holy and set apart.. This whole teaching of cheap grace by saying a 30 second prayer to obtain eternal life is not scriptural and defies the teachings of Jesus. Many lukewarm Christians who quote John 3:16, and simply say all you need to do is say a prayer that “I believe in Jesus”, and that will allow you to enter Heaven and have eternal life are preaching a watered down gospel of cheap of grace. In John 3:16, it says “for God so loved the world, he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever BELIEVES in Him would not perish but would have eternal life.” In the original Greek which was used in the New Testament, the word “believe” actually means “to drink of”, so to attain eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven, we must drink and eat the full doctrine and commandments of Jesus Christ and let them become apart of us. Jesus said, “Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.” (John 6:54)

Churches preaching a doctrine of cheap grace and materialistic prosperity are seriously putting their congregation and themselves in jeopardy, we must drink of the full doctrine, commandments and spirit of Jesus Christ to be saved. Jesus is the way, the life and the truth, His walk is the walk into the narrow and straight gate, and to walk through that narrow straight gate, we must follow in His footsteps and imitate Him.

Hell is a real place and the Lord does not desire any person to go there, you cannot serve God and mammon, and if you do not take up your cross and follow Jesus you are simply not worthy of Him. The far right wing so-called evangelical Christians in America who support the Bush Administration and actively support the wars in the Middle East; who often pray for the soldiers who go over there in satanic war planes to drop bombs on civilian populations; are on a path to hell and damnation, because they have not drank the commandments and spirit of Jesus Christ, and therefore they do not believe on Him. Jesus said, “But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.” (Matt 5:44). Dropping satanic bombs from B2 stealth bombers onto civilian populations, and murdering children going to school in Baghdad is not believing in Jesus and is not drinking of his blood which was shed for the foundation of the world. God will not tolerate murderers, and the right wing so-called evangelicals who support the Bush administration are supporting and are involved in murder, and they are in serious danger of severe judgment and being cast into Hell where they will rot and burn for a longtime. It is my prayer and desire that the people who call themselves Christians in America, who support the satanic wars by their administration, repent of their sin and support of these wars, I pray they will repent of this wickedness so they do not have to go to Hell. Murder is of Satan and war is full of murder, and there is no other nation that has warred and murdered as much as America. “He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him.” (John 8:44). Murder is a sin and an act of Satan, any person supporting the wars America launches on its victims is in serious sin and is on their way to Hell, even if they claim to believe in Jesus and go to church every week. Those Americans who do not speak up against the murder of innocent people who had bombs dropped on them from American war planes, are in serious sin and danger if they don’t speak out against these murders, “Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.” (James 4:17). Speaking up against murder and unjust wars is the good and right thing to do; those who do not do it have missed the mark and are in serious sin as they head toward the depths of Hell.

Hell is a real place and it is the portion given to all those who defy Jesus Christ. The Lord urges all to repent of their wicked ways; all these wars and pre-emptive strikes seem right to a nation, but in the end it leads them to hell, damnation and death, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” (Proverbs 14:12). Repent of the murder, repent of the wars, repent of the pre-emptive strikes against innocent countries in the Middle East and abroad, repent of the wickedness, and repent for taking up the devil inspired weapons that murder the innocent, repent therefore and bring to the alter gifts worthy of repentance.

Prophecy oh Son of Man, tell them to repent and bring to me worthy repentance, they praise Me in church, they sing to me on the pews and they claim to be Christians while neglecting the weightier matters of: justice, mercy and faithfulness. By their fruit you shall know them, those who do not bear good fruit are cast into the fire and shall have their portion with the hypocrites. I ask that all repent of murder and the support of people who murder, dropping bombs from an aircraft and killing civilians and claiming it to be collateral damage is an excuse inspired by Satan, I despise and detest murderers, and I will make no distinction between the ones who order the attacks, and the ones who support the administration who initiate the attacks. I will not be mocked, and my word will not be mocked, those who live by the sword shall die by it and be forced into Hell by it. Come out from among them and be separate, be in the world but not of the world and stand up for justice and speak up for the oppressed. Raise up your voices like trumpets and plead for the victims of murder, as their souls cry out for justice.

If you have been supporting a political administration that has been bombing countries and killing civilians they merely claim are collateral damage, or you attend a church that actively supports and strengthens the image of politicians that support wars like the above, I would invite you to pray a prayer of repentance so you can turn away from this wicked behavior that leads to Hell. If you say this prayer given to me from Jesus, Jesus will forgive you for murder and will not require the blood of the innocent on your hands. This prayer of repentance will humble you and cause you to turn from the wicked ways of murder and bloodshed, and God will forgive you for the blood you shed through your support of certain political administrations. I urge you in the name of Jesus Christ to humble yourself and pray a prayer of humility and repentance, so you can be forgiven and have everlasting life in Heaven with the Prince of Peace. “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”(2 Chronicles 7:14). Please humble yourself and pray this humbling prayer for the sake of your soul.

Jesus,

I believe in your word and I believe you are the Son of God and Prince of Peace who died on the cross for my sins, I love you Jesus and I’m so sorry for all the innocent people who have been murdered in these satanic wars my government claim are just collateral damage. Lord help me to take a stand against these devil inspired wars where so many innocent people die, help me to speak up against a pastor or preacher who preaches that war and murder is of God, because my Bible tells me Satan was a murderer from the beginning. Help me Lord to see the truth and stand up for the truth, because I cannot wear a belt of truth if I don’t take a stand for the truth. I repent Lord for supporting war that kills the innocent, I repent Lord for supporting a government that says children who die from a bomb dropped on them on the way to school are merely collateral damage. Lord I will never support one of these terrible and satanic wars again, help me Lord to have mercy on the people who are being killed for no good reason. I repent and turn away from this wicked behavior Lord, I seek to be a peacemaker because you said, “blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the Sons of God.” Help me to be a Son of God and not a son of the devil. Help me Lord to be a man of peace and a man of justice, help me to tell others that war and murder is wrong. Lord I repent of all my wickedness and sin, and I seek to not go to Hell, but I seek to be perfected in you and to imitate you Jesus, I seek to be a man of Peace and follow the Prince of Peace so I can follow you into Heaven.

In Jesus name I pray. Amen

Piano Tabs – Learn to Play Happy Birthday to You

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Piano tab notation will help you learn melodies without knowing sheet music. In this piano lesson you will learn to read easy piano tabs. You will also learn to play Happy Birthday To You!

If you do not know how to read piano sheet music I suggest that you try to learn it. If you start with very easy melodies with just a few notes you will not get too frustrated. Learn the names of the keys of your piano. Also, learn the names of the notes as they appear on an easy music sheet, focusing on just a few at a time.

To read sheet music well you have to have the patience and devote time to practicing. This practice time will pay off as you will have an immense amount of sheet music waiting to be played. Until you have mastered the art of playing sheet music you can use piano tabs to help you play melodies.

With the help of piano tablature you can easily learn melodies, chords and other music on your piano. Tabs cannot replace sheet music but you can notate much musical information even with this type of notation.

What is piano tablature?

Piano tab notation is an established system for reading and writing music. Actually there are several systems, some with numbers and others with letters but we will use a simplified form of the most common system on the net.

Sheet music notation shows the actual notes to play but not how to play them on your piano. This task you have to perform yourself. Piano tablature on the other hand is a way of showing which keys to play on your piano. When you have learned the system you will find it easy to play melodies. But, first you have to learn the note names.

The note names

We will use the note names on the piano as the basis for the notation. You will have to learn the names of the notes on the white keys of your piano. The first note we will learn is the middle c. It is easy to understand that the middle c is at the middle of the piano but exactly where?

You have probably noticed that the black keys on your piano or keyboard are organized in groups. You will find groups with two and with three black keys all over the keyboard.

If you take a look at the two black keys at the middle of your piano you will find middle c immediately to the left of these black keys. This middle c is sometimes called c4. The number 4 shows that it is the c in the fourth octave.

What is an octave?

Octave means eight and if you play the note c and the following notes until you come to the next c you have played eight notes. This c note is to the left of the next two black keys one octave higher.

The notes after middle c are d e f g a b and then comes c again. When you play these notes from c to the next c you have played a c-major scale. The next c is sometimes called c5 as it is in the next octave which is the fifth octave of a piano keyboard. The c in the octave to the left of middle c is called c3.

Now we will take a closer look at the piano tablature we will use in the song Happy Birthday To You.

The rules

In this article we will use a simplified version of the piano tabs you will find on the Internet. Here are the rules:

1. Lowercase letters show the white keys. That is, c d e f g a b.

2. Uppercase letters show the black keys. The note C means that you shall play the black key to the right of c. This note is written as c# in traditional sheet music language.

3. A number after a note name shows in which octave to play the note. The note c4 means middle c. The following notes to play will not have a number until you change octave.

Happy Birthday To You

Now it is time for you to read the piano tabs to Happy Birthday To You! I will write down the lyrics, one line at a time with the corresponding piano tabs below. It is written in the key of F-major.

The chords to play if someone wants to accompany you are written in brackets before the appropriate syllable. If you already know how to play chords with your left hand you can try to play them yourself as you play the melody with your right hand.

Happy (F)Birthday to (C7)you, happy birthday to (F)you

c4 c d c f e c c d c g f

The number 4 after the first c shows that you are to play the notes in the fourth octave until you find a new octave indication.

Happy (F)birthday, dear (Bb)”Liza”

c c c5 a4 f e d

(Bb)Happy (F)birthday (C7)to (F)you

A A a f g f

Remember, uppercase A is the black note to the right of a.

Remember, the note A is the black key to the right of a.

I suggest that you memorize the melody one line at a time so you do not have to rely on the tab notation. These piano tabs are an introduction to the little more advanced tablature system on the Internet.

A Digital Piano Review

Monday, July 20th, 2009

Today digital pianos range in difference by size, weight, and quality. Many digital pianos have weighted key action, and their advantages over traditional pianos is in their portability and the fact they never need to be tuned. This digital piano review gives some general information about digital pianos that I have played with and provides a link for recommend sites to buy these and other great digital pianos online from trusted sites.

Yamaha P120 Review

The Yamaha P120 is a very good replica of an acoustic grand piano, and the key-weight is very close to the real thing. You have options to change the touch of the keys to soft, medium, and hard. This digital piano will weigh a little over 40-45 pounds. The Yamaha P120 have impressively realistic sounds, especially the two settings for Grand Piano. The other incredible sounds that you will like would also be the organ and harpsichord which are also very realistic. A downfall though is that there are few bells or whistles for this digital piano.

Roland HP137 Review

The Roland HP137 is realistic enough for practicing on, but this piano in my opinion is best for beginners. The keys are a bit light and not so realistic, and would be fine for non-professional players, or players in the early stages of learning how to play a piano. The piano can play the sound of a grand piano, electric piano, harpsichord, pipes, and also come with a demo of eight songs. The piano do not take up much space and also have two headphones jacks so when you play, only you can hear the sound.

Casio CPS-85 Review

The Casio CPS-85 is a very good portable piano that is not too heavy. This digital piano have the feelings of a upright piano, which is good for practicing piano lessons but the keys are a bit light. There is a option for piano 1, (which is higher in sound), and piano 2 (which is more relaxed). The choice of different voices such as the harpsichord and vibraphone will provide enjoyment while playing and practicing your favorite pieces.

Kawai MP9000 Review

The weighted-keys are actually wooden with the “bounce back” action as an acoustic grand piano. The hammers are on top and below the keys, and this is what creates the bounce back key action. The piano is a bit heavy and weighs about 100 pounds. This digital piano is good for pianists interested in jazz and classical music. The Kawai MP9000 is limited in that there are just 16 sounds (plus the changes you can make) but they are good quality sounds.

A Guide to Violin Makers

Friday, July 17th, 2009

There are countless violin manufacturers around the world. From large scale manufacturers who employ several people with different specialties to make many violins a day to artisans and trained violin makers who painstakingly created their instruments one at a time, there is a wide variety of violin manufacturers to choose from.

Violin making is a complicated process. It takes someone with great skill to make violins that not only look great but have excellent sound quality as well. Violin makers usually start by drawing the violin’s design and making a metallic template of what it will look like. They then use the template to create a mould. The mould is a wooden structure shaped like a violin. The violinmaker then constructs the sides, or ribs, of the violin around the mould before making the front and back of the violin based on the mould. Finally, the violinmaker carves the neck out of maple and attaches it to the body. The last step is to add the bridge, head, and any other parts necessary to make the violin sound good.

Often, it is more economical to buy a violin from a mass manufacturer. These instruments are often as good as more expensive models. These manufacturers usually have several people work to make a single violin. For example, one person could specialize in making the neck while someone else carves the body. Having multiple specialists allows these manufacturers to produce more violins at a quicker pace.

Many of the best violins are made one at a time by one person. There are schools around the world that train students in the art of violin making. Violin makers often make expensive products that are preferred by the top players around the world. These violins are also more likely to become collector’s items than mass-produced violins.

Violin makers are skilled professionals who often perfect their craft only after several years of hard work. The art of making a violin is difficult to master, but those who can do it well are highly regarded and well compensated for their work.

Guitar Lesson – Guitar Nomenclature

Monday, July 13th, 2009

Since the inception of communication, man was able to communicate with others by using symbols and actions. As man continued to develop, his knowledge continued to grow at an exceptional rate, and his communication development improved as sounds and simple words evolved.

As time passed society gradually developed small communities where people of the same class or group could relate to each other. Today communication has been transposed to a newer dimension: people are creating new words to fit their group. This is probably the why many musicians have created, and use musical jargon. Guitar playing jargon evolved so that guitar players could communicate within the context of their music.

This jargon in particular has created an exclusive social milieu where the people who know how to play the guitar are the only ones who can understand it.

While many people are against it, the jargon used by the guitar players has in some way, protected the people. It enables musicians and artists to protect their intellectual rights from people who wish to take advantage of what they can provide.

The only problem with musical jargons like those used by the guitarists is that it becomes an exclusive form of communication that only those who understand it.

People who are not familiar with this type of communication, but are interested in learning how to play the guitar find it really hard to understand or learn.

Some people contend that learning how to play the guitar as well as learning how to understand jargon would be a nice if learned in tandem. Knowing these things, you could not only learn to play the instrument but be able to take part in a social group where each could understand the other.

Guitar-playing jargons have the propensity to create an atmosphere of superiority and expertise, where people who understand the lingo can actually have an advantage over others.

It might be hard for a beginner to learn and master the jargon, but the benefit would be that they would able to communicate with others who play guitar when using their musical jargon.
